Competency Or Talent Analysis

Find out what your people need to know to do things for delivering expected outcomes.

In simple terms, Talent Analysis is the first step and an important step in equipping your human resources with the required knowledge and skills. The operative is "required," the crux of the analysis. Often referred to as either Competency Analysis or Talent Analysis, It helps you to identify the competencies needed for the present and the future business requirements.

Globally it is recognised (and proven) that organisational excellence is closely correlated with talent level. That highlights the significance of Talent Needs Analysis. This leads to two questions: who need it and when.

The Need:

Growth is a universal aspiration (and basic ingredient for survival,) excellence in talent is essential every business. The problem is that skill level declines gradually over a period. You have to top it up just like a battery. The best practice, it logically follows is to evaluate competency levels at predetermined intervals. And, of course it is crucial to analyse learning needs when there are major events for e.g.

  • Launch of new products/ services,
  • Stagnating or slow growth,
  • External stimuli such as competition, technology changes, legal requirements
  • Large-scale changes in headcount,
  • New machinery/ technology/ processes is installed,
  • Role changes due to promotions/ transfers
  • Acquisitions or mergers,

Bundle of gains:

In addition to meeting you short and medium objectives, Competency Analysis  accelerates the journey towards long-term goals.

Of course, coaching does take place in most businesses most of the time. It may be on the job training, "buddy mentoring" by a senior or a "lecture" by the manager. But, these efforts are informal at best and may not fulfill organisation-wide needs. And, there may be certain risks like wrong person training the wrong people for wrong competencies, a recipe for a big letdown. Apart from preventing such incidents, a systematic approach helps you to define the outcomes, needs and training methodology accurately.

Linking Learning with Goals:

Our approach to Talent Analysis is comprehensive. The process involves:

  • Gathering the information related to key business areas and expected outcomes,
  • Defining key areas and business goals
  • Reviewing Skills, knowledge and behaviours of the people, the team and your organisation itself
  • Evaluating key business metrics and trends,
  • Conducting gap analysis and identifying skill needs,
  • Prioritising trainable skills and recommending appropriate training methodologies,
  • Budgeting training costs including lost productivity,
  • Providing cost benefit analysis,

We have deep understanding of Telecom, Banking, Oil & Gas, Hospitality, Logistics, Electronics and other industries and their specific needs when operating in the UAE, rest of Middle East and North Africa. And, that is a very significant advantage in assessing what needs to be trained.

Mr. Prashant Dadahari Gite, Head - Human Resources, Anti Infective, India

    Sandoz Private Limited
  • I have known Jagdish since 1999 while he was with IT People. Jagdish frankly was a discovery as he proved greater than what he appeared to be or spoke about. Though those days he did not appear to be an out spoken guy, he proved his capabilities beyond the expectations of the team and the management. I still remember him as a sober chap, highly flexible, ready to sacrifice anything and everything to attain the task before him - he never complains about extended work times, late nights or setbacks due to client delays - He tuned with his team managers displaying high loyalty, dedication and cooperation as if he was silently saying in unsaid words that "I will run with you till we reach the destination together no matter what slows us down or no matter how high are the mountains that we need to climb till we reach there. “

When I met him recently, I have realised that he has progressed much ahead in his career both in maturity and experience in the HR domain and I was extremely happy to understand his progress and success. I truly and sincerely wish Jagdish all the best in his new HR venture and I am positive that he is one of the few who will stand strong to fulfil his commitments and meet the needs of his clients to their utmost satisfaction. My advice to Jagdish is “To be yourself and to be original because there are only a few who can do as best as you without needing a put up personality”.
